A project to renew the twinning of the Guernsey Parish of the Vale with a town in France would be beneficial to the island, those behind the project say.
Twinning is when towns or villages or areas establish a link and share cultural and social connections.
The Vale Douzaine is trying to re-establish the link with Barneville Carteret, in north-west France.
The parish was twinned with the town in 1989, but, due to lack of interest after former members of the twinning committee passed away, relations have cooled off.
'Benefit to communities'
Jeremy Smithies, Vice Dean of Vale Douzaine, said: "It is mainly I think a cultural interchange; we would intend to visit them once a year and we would hope that they would send a delegation to the Vale once a year and we would entertain them.
"The links between Guernsey, the Vale, and Barneville Carteret are mainly through the boating, the marine community.
"There's a very thriving marina at Carteret which I've visited many times in the past and we always get a warm welcome from the yacht club and the authorities there as boaters as individuals.
"I think to try and get a cultural exchange going could only be a benefit to both communities."
St Saviour's Parish has been twinned with Montebourg, in Normandy, since 1993 and they both have a close connection with yearly visits.
People from St Saviour will visit the La Foire de la Chandeleur, an annual cattle fair and market, while people from Montebourg visit the West Show.
Stuart Crisp, president of St Saviour's Multiple Twinning Association, said: "A twinning charter, for us, it promotes and encourages touristic and social and economic exchange the two communities."
He added: "This year was a really important year for us because it was our 30th year of twinning."
"It is wonderful to confirm the friendship between Montebourg and St Saviour's.
"The twinning is important to both places and is an opportunity to speak French and share our different cultures."
