An unexploded bomb has been discovered on a beach.

Police said a member of the public reported the shell on Widemouth beach in Cornwall on Sunday at 11:15 GMT.

A 300m (985ft) cordon was put in place at 13:10 GMT but would not affect homes in the area, Devon & Cornwall Police added.

The force said the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team was on its way to the scene to assess whether the shell was safe to be removed or whether it would have to be detonated in situ.

Falmouth Coastguard said two rescue teams were assisting the force and asked members of the public to "stay away from the area".

"Don't go down to watch it as we're trying to keep people away and safe," a spokesperson added.
