An initiative to run a regular monthly street market in Cornwall has been supported with a grant of more than £40,000.
Cornwall Council’s Community Levelling Up Programme has given £42,366 to "support local businesses and increase town centre footfall" in Newquay.
The initiative, which has been led by The Newquay Business Improvement District (Newquay BID), will see a monthly outdoor market in the town centre from April to December.
Mark Warren, Newquay BID Manger said it was "a very exciting time for Newquay".
'Community at the heart'
The funding has been used to provide equipment including gazebos, weights and tie-down kits, and trestle tables.
The events showcase more than 40 local makers, producers and small businesses in collaboration with Cornwall Shop Small and Newquay Farmers Market.
Mr Warren, Newquay BID Manager said: “We are already being approached by community groups who would like to use our new gazebos.
"This is a very exciting time for Newquay and without the funding this wouldn't have happened."
Cornwall councillor Louis Gardner said: “This project puts the local communities at the heart of delivering an initiative that extends the opportunity to trade beyond the usual seasonal activity that will help reignite the potential of the high street all year round.
"With potential to extend to offer to include live music and family friendly activities to enhance the visitor experience and create a destination event for tourists and locals to further drive footfall to the town.”
The market takes place on the first Saturday of the month between 10:00 and 16:00 and is held along Bank Street and onto the Killacourt.
It runs between April and December.
