Pictures have shown the devastating aftermath of a major fire at a speedway and motor sports stadium.

Firefighters were called to Mildenhall Stadium at West Row, Suffolk, at about 17:30 BST on Tuesday to reports of a fire inside a storage unit containing agricultural machinery.

Eighteen appliances from three counties tackled the fire overnight before it was brought under control.

Brandon Fire Station has shared photos from the scene that shows burnt out tractors as well as a destroyed bar area.

In a post on social media on Wednesday night, fire station staff said: "Brandon was called to relieve other crews from other fire stations who had been in attendance damping down from yesterday’s incident, a rotation of crews had been going on throughout last night and today."

Crews from Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire were called and a water carrier from the nearby US air base at RAF Mildenhall was used.

Some of the teams are still dampening down the scene.

Former owner-turned-caretaker Dave Coventry previously said parts of the stadium had been "devastated".

Fire crews are working to establish the cause of the fire

The stadium has been in operation since the 1970s and is home to the Mildenhall Fen Tigers speedway team as well as hosting stock car and greyhound racing.

Mr Coventry said he was unsure when they would be able to welcome motor sports fans back.

Lee Wilkins, from Suffolk Fire Service, said a cause for the fire was yet to be determined but no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators were due on the scene on Wednesday.
