Twenty seven arrested over Harehills disorder
- Published
Twenty seven people have now been arrested in connection with disorder which broke out in the Harehills area of Leeds last month, police have said.
A bus was set on fire and a police car flipped on its side as crowds gathered in the streets on 18 July.
Trouble flared after four children were removed from their home and taken into emergency care over concerns they would be taken out of the UK. The children were later returned to extended family members.
West Yorkshire Police said four of those arrested have been charged while another had been recalled to prison for a separate matter and remains under investigation for violent disorder.
The remaining twenty two people have been released on bail while investigations are ongoing, the force said.
Thanking those who came forward with information, Assistant Chief Constable Pat Twiggs said more arrests were expected to be made in the coming weeks.
“I promised at the outset that our investigation into this matter would be relentless, and we remain committed to identifying all those involved and bringing them to justice, using all the investigative tools available to us," he said.
“I would also repeat my message to those who were involved and have not yet come forward to make contact with the police now, before we come to arrest you.”
