Police are appealing for information after a boy was found "seriously injured" with a stab wound next to a canal.

Northamptonshire Police said it was called to the Grand Union Canal near Briar Hill at about 16:50 BST on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and treated a teenage boy who had suffered a stab wound to his leg.

Officers said the footpath along the canal is currently closed from Ladybridge Drive to Ringway while investigations continue.

They said they were "satisfied that this was a targeted attack" and that there was "no wider risk to members of the public".

Officers have remained in the area to "reassure the local community".

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
