Broadband poles 'causing panic attacks'

Residents say the poles are affecting their quality of life

New broadband poles in Burnley are causing people panic attacks, campaigners have told the town's council.

One resident of the Lower Manor estate said they had been placed close to homes, outside front gates and in the middle of pavements without the homeowners being consulted.

The claims were made as a petition signed by 342 people opposed to the structures was handed to Burnley Council by resident Debra O'Donnell, who said "the situation needs to change".

Telecommunications firm BRSK said it had notified residents about its plans and managers had visited those directly affected.

'They're all they see'

Councillors were told the panic attacks suffered by some residents were down to the poles being "all they see when they wake up in the morning and go to bed at night".

The petition calls on the council to support the removal of the poles and for no more to be erected on the estate.

Burnley Council has promised to respond.

BRSK has been rolling out full-fibre broadband across Burnley since October 2021, aiming to connect 50,000 homes and businesses to the fastest broadband.

The firm has previously responded to the petition, saying it took community engagement very seriously.

It said it was disappointed that residents didn't feel sufficient effort had been made on its part.
