A man has denied attempting to murder two people during an attack in Westward Ho! in August last year.

Drew Davey, 26, of Greenbank Road, Barnstaple, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Geoffrey Gregory and Zak Grills.

A third person, Alan Carter, was injured during the same incident.

Mr Davey pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to both men and also admitted causing actual bodily harm to Mr Carter.

'Decision made shortly'

The three men were all found with injuries after police were called to a property in Golf Links Road at about 01:00 GMT on 16 August 2023 after reports of a serious assault.

Officers said at the time three people were taken to hospital and two remained in a serious condition.

Prosecutor Daniel Pawson-Pounds said a decision would be made shortly on whether to accept the pleas offered by Davey, in which case the more serious charge of attempted murder would not go to trial.

Judge Peter Johnson remanded Davey in custody and adjourned the case until 7 May.
