Gas company SGN says it is "unclear" how long the repair work will take

A gas company said it was not clear how long roadworks would be in place while engineers identified the source of a gas leak in Tunbridge Wells.

Temporary lights and road closures are in place around the A264 Pembury Road while engineers continue the work.

Gas company SGN said it was unclear how long it would take to repair the affected pipe, near the junction with Halls Hole Road.

Spokesman Dan Brown said the company recognised that multiple sets of roadworks in Tunbridge Wells was frustrating for motorists, residents and businesses.

The works are unrelated to pipe replacement work in Langton Road due to be completed by 21 June, he added.

Mr Brown said the works on the A264 were necessary to "ensure everyone’s safety".

He added: "This is a complex repair as the affected low pressure pipe is located close to other utility pipes.

"This is further complicated by the thickness of the road surface here as we need to use specialist drilling equipment to access and carry out the required repairs.

"It remains unclear how long it will take to repair the affected pipe at this stage."

Bus company Arriva Kent said in a post on X, external, formerly Twitter, that the number six bus service, from Tunbridge Wells to Maidstone, was experiencing "severe disruption".

Customers were advised to used the 277 to get to Pembury Hospital where there should be a service six, but that it would be running late.

Temporary lights are being manually operated between 07:00 and 19:00 BST "to manage traffic flow and minimise disruption", Mr Brown said.
