A free shuttle bus linking a town's train station to its centre has been launched in a bid to attract more visitors.

Appleby Rotary Club said it hoped the service will help people with mobility needs and those who struggle getting up the hill into town.

The service, which will be trialled over the summer months, has been planned to meet specific trains to transport people to the main retail and riverside walks areas.

Appleby's Tourism Information Centre (TIC) said it was "keen to find new ways of helping people come to the town".

The service is launching ahead of Appleby hosting one of the largest gatherings in Europe for Gypsies and travellers from 6 June until 12 June.

The Settle Carlisle Development Company is providing the shuttle service and Appleby Rotary Club members will drive the bus.
