A suspected burglar who absconded during his arrest is still on the run.

The 19-year-old man was arrested in High Street South, Dunstable shortly after 16:00 BST on Tuesday.

Bedfordshire Police carried out an extensive search - including deploying the force helicopter - but was unable to locate him.

A woman on Facebook said she saw a man "in handcuffs" with his arms behind his back run from Priory car park towards the Quadrant shopping centre.

The witness said she saw two police officers pursue him, but he "was much faster".

It is not believed the suspect poses a risk to the wider community.

The force said the suspected burglary took place in the neighbouring Thames Valley Police area.

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with police.

Thames Valley Police has been approached for comment.
