Imagine checking your post one morning to find a wad of £20 notes.

That is exactly what happened to Bristol Autism Support, which has become the third charity in the region to receive such lucky mail.

Staff said the £1,020 cash donation "knocked them off their chairs" when it dropped on the mat - but they have no idea who sent it.

It comes after similar donations to Marie Curie in Bristol, and the RNLI in Portishead.

The donation added up to £1,020 in total

A member of staff was conducting her usual morning checks collecting post at reception and thought the parcel was a packet of flyers.

Instead, a stack of £20 notes fell out.

A charity spokesperson said: "Bristol Autism Support wants to thank the anonymous donor who has given £1,020 to the charity.

"We’ve been completely blown away by this – such a generous donation to a small charity will have an enormous impact on the families we support in and around Bristol.

"The donation will go towards supporting our charity’s ongoing work, including free in-person support, a helpline, training and information sessions, free membership, volunteer opportunities and family events for families supporting autistic children - with or without a diagnosis."

The charity said the stack of old-style £20 notes had been accepted as legal tender by the Post Office.
