Man shot in head during street fight

A man was shot in the head with what is believed to be an air rifle after a fight in Stockton.

The brawl broke out just before 02:00 GMT on Bowesfield Lane and Northcote Street, and involved "males with weapons", Cleveland Police said.

The 31-year-old was taken to hospital although his injuries are not thought to be serious.

A total of 10 people, aged between 17 and 50, were arrested on suspicion of various offences and they remain in custody.

Among those held included a 31-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
