A colourful piece of street art is bursting into life in Ashford, Kent.

Curtis Hylton is painting a giant peacock on the side of a shop in Bank Street to feature in the Ashford Unframed mural trail.

Mr Hylton won the best street art award for his Flamboyant Fawn piece in last year’s festival and hopes his entry this year will be just as popular.

“You kind of hope for the best," he said.

Mr Hylton uses spray paints over an emulsion base coat to create his vibrant designs.

He said: "I’ve always had a massive love of nature, birds especially, and it’s a dream to work at a larger scale because it has more impact."

The festival began last year and was intended to improve the look of the town.

Chris Dixon, arts and cultural industries manger for Ashford Council, said: “We spoke with businesses and said 'if you allow us access to your wall, we will give you a world class mural'."

Mr Hylton's peacock will be complete later this week.
