Residents are being invited to have their say on plans to improve a Hull sports area.

Improvement works will begin soon on Costello playing fields.

Hull City Council says the upgrade will create state-of-the-art year-round sports provision.

Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, says the council is making a “considerable investment” in the project.

Community user groups will have access to the facilities during peak times, such as evenings and weekends, while Hull College will use them as part of its outdoor provision on weekdays during term-time.

The site is prone to flooding but the council says improvements will benefit “the general public, students, sports clubs and park runners”.

Public consultation on the scheme first took place in April 2023 and, after feedback, the plans have been revised.

The updated proposals can be viewed during three sessions taking place at Peter Pan Café on Costello playing fields on Tuesday 12 March from 3-5pm; Wednesday 13 March from 6-8pm and Saturday, 16 March from 9-11am.

This is the final opportunity for residents to have their voices heard on the subject.

Mr Pritchard said the council had listened to feedback on the plans. “To have another state-of-the-art sports facility for the people of Hull is fantastic and I look forward to seeing it once completed.”

Work is scheduled to begin in spring and completed later this year.
