People with Parkinson's offered free gym memberships

People with Parkinson's are being encouraged to take up free gym memberships in recognition of World Parkinson's Day.
A number of leisure centres - managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Bristol City Council – collaborated with charity Parkinson’s UK on the initiative.
Those who take up the offer will be able to use the gym, swim and take part in group exercise classes for free.
Christina Gray, public health director at Bristol City Council, said: "Barriers still remain for sufferers, which is why initiatives such as these are essential."
The scheme has helped more than 100 people in Bristol since it launched in 2022.
World Parkinson's Day, which took place this week, raises awareness of the disease, which is the fastest-growing neurological condition on Earth, and currently has no cure.
Everyone Active said exercise could help people living with Parkinson's, with activities such as dancing beneficial in managing symptoms.
Ms Gray added: "I am delighted to see this initiative being offered to those living with Parkinson's here in Bristol, a disease which presents many challenges for people up and down the country.
"Dedicated classes for people living with Parkinson’s are already available across council-owned leisure centres and have had an amazing impact on people’s lives.
"However, barriers still remain for sufferers, which is why initiatives such as these are essential in ensuring everyone has the opportunity, no matter their ability, to stay active."
