Four thousand Muslims gathered in a city centre park in what was the biggest turnout in an event's 10-year history.

Nafis Lodhi, one of the organisers of Eid in the Park in Peterborough, said he wanted people from different backgrounds, cultures and families to get together and share a meal.

Muslims have spent the holy month fasting as part of Ramadan in the run up to Eid al-Fitr.

"The biggest thing is that we're all coming together," he said.

Sheikh Mahmood from Masjid Khadijah led the sermon for the prayers in the park.

Fezaan Azam organised a separate celebration in Cambridge earlier which he said was a "wonderous, joyous occasion".

Last year, organisers in Cambridge saw up to 6,000 people attend.
