Drugs and baseball bat found in car after crash

A man was arrested after a baseball bat and cannabis were found when a car crashed on a busy road in Nottinghamshire.

Police spotted the car travelling at speed on the A617 Chesterfield Road North, near Mansfield, on Monday.

After noticing the vehicle at about 01:50 BST, officers started to follow it from a distance.

It later collided with the central reservation and ended up on the opposite side of the carriageway, police said.

Nottinghamshire Police said a suspect was seen running away from the scene and into gardens nearby.

A man was found by officers a short time later underneath a van.

Whilst carrying out searches on the car, they found cannabis, a baseball bat, a large amount of cash and multiple mobile phones.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug, dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, drug driving and possession of an offensive weapon.
