Spondon Library was closed suddenly after structural issues with its roof were discovered

  • Published

A library has been forced to close temporarily after a routine survey identified "structural issues" with its roof.

Derby City Council said Spondon Library, on Sitwell Street, will remain shut "for a short period of time" while further investigations are carried out.

A spokeswoman said: "Contractors will be on site assessing the situation next week and we will update our customers once we know more.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and are doing all we can to ensure the library is safe."

Any books currently on loan from Spondon will be automatically renewed to prevent late fees and can also be returned to any of Derby’s other libraries, which remain open as usual.
