The family of a British man who died after being stabbed outside a nightclub in Spain have paid tribute to him.

Nikki Robinson, from Hucknall, Nottingham, was attacked outside the Oxygen nightclub in Calella, about 30 miles (48km) north of Barcelona.

The 30-year-old died at the scene following the attack at about 04:00 on 21 June.

In a tribute released by Nottinghamshire Police, his family said they were “truly devastated”.

The killing is being investigated by Mossos d'Esquadra – the police force for the Catalonia region.

Mr Robinson worked as a carpenter for Evolution Sport and had been in Spain working for Red Bull during the Formula 1, said police.

He has been described by his loved ones as a "hard-working lad" and "family man".

In their statement, the family said: “We are truly devastated at the loss of our beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and great friend Nikki Robinson.

“Nikki was a hard-working lad and a family man who tragically died whilst working for Red Bull out in Spain during the Formula 1.

“Nikki loved his job and had the great opportunity to travel the world with lifelong friends with whom he worked alongside, made possible by Evolution Sport.

“When Nikki was at home, he loved spending time with his dog and his family; particularly his Mamma Alice and was in the process of renovating a camper van for more adventures."

Nottinghamshire Police said its specially-trained officers were supporting Mr Robinson's family on behalf of the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office and Spanish law enforcement.
