A dangerous driver who prompted a police pursuit after driving on the wrong side of the road has been jailed.

Logan Cook, 22, of no fixed address, was spotted driving a Fiat 500 with false number plates on Saturday 9 September.

He was travelling the wrong way along Oxney Road, Peterborough, when he rammed police vehicles, leading to the pursuit.

Cook was sentenced to one year in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on 4 January.

A stinger was used to deflate a front tyre of the car but the 22-year-old continued to drive on the wrong side of the road towards officers and the public.

'Incredibly dangerous manner'

Cook crashed into a verge after driving on to Parnwell Way, Peterborough, and fled on foot before he was arrested.

Cambridgeshire Police said he told officers that he knew he was on recall to prison but did not know why he drove in the way he did, putting others at risk.

He admitted to dangerous driving and driving without insurance and said he "couldn't really deny it".

Sgt Mohammed Haleem said: "Cook showed no regard for other road users by driving in this incredibly dangerous manner, and he also put the lives of not only police officers but also members of the public at risk."
