Paid-for car parking could return to town

The town council funded free parking in the town

Residents in a Cheshire town may have to pay for parking again after a town council said it would "revisit" a decision which kept it free.
Bollington Town Council agreed to fund parking at Pool Bank car park after Cheshire East Council removed free parking in several towns and villages.
But the town council said Cheshire East's proposal to "significantly increase" the cost means it would make a decision at a meeting later.
Cheshire East Council has not responded to a request for comment.
In December 2024 Cheshire East brought in paid-for parking in various areas where parking had always been free.
In Bollington, the town council had allocated £43,740 to be paid to Cheshire East Council to provide free car parking at Pool Bank in its current budget.
But in its latest budget documents, it said although it had made a "big effort in trying to renegotiate the costs", the figure from Cheshire East was "stuck at around £51k for next year" with no option for only covering the first 30 minutes or one hour.
In a statement, Bollington said it "remains committed to acting responsibly with public funds" and would provide further details after making a decision on its budget.
