A 28-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of an infant.

Rhydian Jamieson from Cwm-Cou, Ceredigion, left a young child with "catastrophic" injuries, Swansea Crown Court heard.

He was arrested after police were called to a property in the village of Y Ferwig, in Ceredigion, at about 22:15 GMT on 15 January, following a report of concerns for an infant's welfare.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Ceredigion councillor Clive Davies said at the time the incident had been a "shock" for the community and his thoughts were with the family.

Jamieson will be sentenced at Swansea Crown court on 27 May.
