Stunning footage has been captured of a humpback whale breaching off the coast of Newquay.

The whale put on a spectacular show for about 35 minutes on Thursday, leaving onlookers in awe.

Ian Boreham, who filmed the breaches, described the experience as "absolutely incredible".

"It was quite a life experience, really, to see one of those," he said.

'Breathtaking'

The whale has been frequenting the Cornish shores since New Year's Eve, said Mr Boreham, who had been taking part in a sealife survey.

"We saw this amazing breach of a whale where it leapt out of the water and just fresh landed into the sea, it was an incredible sight," he said.

"We kept at a distance from it and it just kept leaping out of the water around us, showing its pectoral fins and tail flukes.

"I've seen humpback whales over the years around Newquay and Cornwall, but to see it breach like that all around us was incredible.

"The whole body just lifted out, and to see it in front of you is such a sight. It was breathtaking, to be honest."
