County council draws up plans for new school

The county council plans to sub-divide the existing school

Plans have been drawn up for a new special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school in Blaby.
A planning application has revealed that Leicestershire County Council is looking to sub-divide the existing Blaby Stokes Primary School to create a new, separate school on its Queen's Road grounds.
The new school would provide spaces for 40 students with special educational needs, aged four to 11, in what is currently the key stage 1 building.
The application stated the primary school has had a decrease in pupil admission numbers and did not currently use all of its buildings.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said the primary school would be reduced from a two-form entry, which means a school has two classes in each year group, to a 1.5-form entry, with pupils accommodated within one building "with modest extension and reconfiguration of the site".
The county council said the new school would aim to accommodate pupils from Oakfield short-stay school, which is currently housed in a temporary location within Newlands Community Primary School, in Earl Shilton.
The proposed SEND building would be at the back of the existing school, the LDRS said.
Planning officers at Blaby District Council are considering the scheme.
