A horse named Clive has been rescued by firefighters after falling into water.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to Mucking Hall Road in Barling Magna, near Southend, just before midday on Thursday.

Specialist firefighters from Chelmsford helped to pull Clive from the mud using sleds and a harness.

He was left in the care of his owner and vet.

Station manager Mark Elliot said: "Crews worked closely with Clive's owner and a vet to keep him as calm as possible during a difficult rescue from water.

"We had great communication between us all and we were able to rescue Clive quite quickly and get him back in his stables."
