Sporting gear used by Olympic heroes from Leeds - from the Brownlee brothers to Nicola Adams - will be on display at a special family-themed workshop later.

Items include Ms Adam's signed boxing gloves and the bike used by triathlete champion Alistair Brownlee at the Go for Gold event at Leeds Discovery Centre.

Visitors will also be able to make their own Olympic trophy and have a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's collection store.

The museum said the city was known for producing Olympic-level athletes and they wanted to continue the legacy.

Other Olympic paraphernalia featured include a pair of unworn swimming trunks for diver Yona Roshen Knight-Wisdom, a 1948 Olympic coin and a Cypriot jug dating back to the ancient Olympic Games held in Greece.

Lizzie Gothorp, project curator, also said: "It’s the perfect time to inspire children about sport and look at the amazing history of different events and sportspeople from Leeds.

"We’re currently working on a project to collect sport objects and stories in Leeds and this is a great way to get families involved."

Leeds Olympians include Ms Adams, 41, who won gold at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

Alistair Brownlee, 36, also won gold at the same Games and his brother Jonny, 34, won a mixture of gold, silver and bronze at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympics.

Meanwhile Mr Roshen Knight-Wisdom, 29, who was born in Leeds but represents Jamaica, became the first Caribbean male diver at an Olympic Games in 2016.

Nile Wilson, 28, is a former gymnast from Pudsey who won bronze in the men's horizontal bar at the 2016 Olympics.

The workshops and tours are free but booking is required due to limited numbers, confirmed the museum.

The event will run from 10:00 until 12:00 and 13:00 until 15:00 BST.
