A man has been left with a broken nose and fractured ribs after he was pulled from his vehicle by a pedestrian and assaulted.

The victim, in his 40s, was travelling along Market Square, Hitchin, at about 20:30 BST on Saturday when he was attacked.

Det Con Kathryn Pink, from Hertfordshire Police, said: "This is a shocking assault that has left the victim with serious injuries and we are keen to identify the offender quickly."

Police said the attacker was a white man who had both of his arms covered in tattoos. He was wearing an orange shirt, grey tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The victim also suffered concussion and a cut lip that required stitches.

Ms Pink added: "This happened on a busy Saturday night in the town centre and I know that several people came to the victim's aid.

"If you saw what happened and have not already spoken to police, please get in touch with me as soon as possible."
