A man has been found dead in floodwater in North Yorkshire.

He was discovered in an area of flooding near Intake Lane in Beal, near Knottingley.

North Yorkshire Police said the man had been "informally identified" and it was trying to trace his next of kin.

A spokesperson said the man was white, in his 50s or 60s, and was thought to have entered the water in the past 24-48 hours.

He was found without any identification or personal belongings, prompting an appeal from officers to help identify him.
