A man has been arrested after a young child was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run, police said.

The man, in his 20s, was being held after a white Skoda Fabia was involved in a collision with a pedestrian and failed to stop at the scene on the A134 Brandon Road in Thetford, at about 18:50 BST on Monday, Norfolk Police said.

The victim was taken to West Suffolk Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where they remain in a serious, but stable condition.

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
