Five artists will produce murals across 15 arches at a marina in Jersey.

ArtHouse Jersey and Jersey Water said the theme of the art centred around relationships with water.

The charity said the murals would be in place at St Helier's Elizabeth Marina by 19 September.

Jersey Water's head of communications Abi Nance said she hoped the project would "highlight the critical issue of water scarcity".

She said: "Seeing these themes illustrated in the form of public art will really help to raise awareness of our efforts to protect and sustain the island’s water resource for generations to come."

Artist Will Bertram, from Jersey, said his artwork was inspired by the island's "unique and varied coastline".

He said he was excited to create a piece of art which "celebrates the beauty of being surrounded by the water" and hopes to emphasise the need to protect it.

Jersey artist and teacher Robert Allen said it was an "honour" to be chosen as one of the artists.

Mr Allen said: "The coastline of Jersey has been a continual source of inspiration for my artwork, especially the changing tides and the harbours around the island.

"I am excited to leave a visual mark on Jersey that will hopefully be seen for years to come.”

Award winning artist Lucy Oates, based in Bristol, said: “The opportunity to contribute to the beautification of such a beloved site as Elizabeth Marina is incredibly inspiring.

"Being a part of this project combines my love for art with my desire to positively impact local communities.”

Artist Zara Le Cornu, 22, from Jersey, said it would be a "colourful collaboration leaving a legacy for the community to enjoy in years to come".

Jersey-born illustrator and painter Oli Nightingale, who is based in Spain, said: "I'm really looking forward to returning home to take a deeper dip into our shared connection with water in all its forms and seeing what visual expression follows."
