A mechanical fault on a ferry from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly has been resolved, its operator has confirmed.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group (ISSG) said the Scillonian III, which runs from Penzance to St Mary's, suffered the fault on Saturday.

Passengers were warned of delays and possible cancellations, while the ferry ran on reduced power.

An ISSG spokesperson said a specialist engineer successfully identified and resolved the issue on Tuesday evening.

The operator said the vessel was operating at full power but it would continue to follow an amended schedule, with earlier departures from St Mary’s until 7 September.

"The vessel will return to its normal published schedule on Sunday 8 September 2024," a spokesperson said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this situation may have caused and appreciate your understanding."
