A man who died in a motorbike crash had been celebrating his 40th birthday, according to a friend.

Lawrence Alderman paid tribute to Paul Sigsworth as "a great guy, full of life and fun" after the crash in Hertfordshire on Friday.

Mr Sigsworth was a pillion passenger on the bike when it was in collision with a car on the A505 between Royston and Baldock shortly after 23:30 GMT.

The motorcycle rider also died at the scene, near the junction with Cat Ditch Road at Wallington. A woman was arrested on suspicion of causing two deaths by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

The woman, in her 30s, was also being questioned on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She has since been released on bail.

"Paul died with his good friend David Porter who was driving the motorbike from Ashwell to Mill End to take Paul home," said Mr Alderman.

"He had been celebrating his 40th birthday that day. He sadly leaves behind a nine-year-old daughter."

Mr Alderman said Mr Sigsworth was the site manager of his building project at the Moon & Stars pub in Rushden.

"Paul was a great guy, full of life and fun. He always had a smile and kept good spirits up with his colleagues," he said.

Mr Alderman said he hoped to "do something to make this road safer as a tribute to him".
