Parents of 1,000 children get school uniform help

The parents of more than 1,000 children will receive financial help towards the cost of school uniforms.

The States of Guernsey said it had so far accepted 470 applications from parents for its uniform grant scheme, external for the 2024/25 academic year.

The figures represented a similar total as previous years for the means-tested program, officials said.

Applications could be made up until the Easter holidays next year, they added.

Guernsey charity Health Connections has a kindness rail where people can take uniforms free of charge.

Bella Farrell from the charity said: "People need to find a bargain no matter what their income brackets are.

"We don't differentiate between those who can afford or can't afford."
