Councillors are set to vote on plans to partially redevelop Sussex County Cricket Ground.

The cricket club has applied to replace an informal seating area at the Hove stadium with two new stands of permanent seating, replace hospitality facilities with a third new stand and build a new bar/restaurant and toilets.

Objections have been raised to plans over concerns about the effect on locals.

Brighton & Hove City councillors will decide whether they go ahead on Wednesday.

Worries and support

One person, who described themselves as an "immediate neighbour", wrote to the council that they "wholeheartedly" supported the application, reported the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

But six objections have been raised, focusing on noise, overdevelopment, traffic and neighbourhood impact.

“This development will destroy what little remains of the original ambience of this once lovely ground," wrote one objector on the council website.

"It will be impossible for residents to park anywhere near their homes and noise levels will be unbearable," they claimed.

Brighton & Hove City Council greenlit the plans in principle when it approved an outline of the four-phase development in March 2020.

The first two stages involved a now-completed nine-storey block of flats and revamping the south-west stand with new hospitality facilities.

Councillors on Wednesday will vote on the remaining two phases.

Planning officers have recommended they approve the scheme.
