Murder trial date set for man, 80

A judge has set a date for a trial after an 80-year-old man was accused of murdering a 76-year-old man.

Peter Kindell, of Silverdale Close, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, has been charged with the murder of John Jones and with possessing an offensive weapon and a bladed article in public.

Judge Heather Norton oversaw a preliminary hearing at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday.

She set a provisional trial date of 2 June and said the case would be transferred to Aylesbury Crown Court.

Thames Valley Police had said emergency services were called to a property on Silverdale Close at 16:20 GMT on Friday.

Police said Mr Jones had been found with serious injuries and had died at the scene.

Magistrates in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, had initially considered the case at a hearing on Monday and remanded Mr Kindell in custody.

Mr Kindell did not appear at Wednesday's hearing in Reading.

Judge Norton discussed legal issues with lawyers representing the Crown Prosecution Service and Mr Kindell.

No pleas were entered.

The judge said a further preliminary hearing would be held at Aylesbury Crown Court on 17 February.
