Housing development approved after 27 years

The 114-home development will be located on land at Farnborough Drive in Daventry

Updated plans to build more than 100 homes on a long-allocated site have been approved by a council - 27 years since they were first mooted.

The 114-home development off Farnborough Drive in Daventry, Northamptonshire, was previously paused after West Northamptonshire Council deferred the original application amid concerns it would result in "second-rate" housing.

Revised plans returned to the council's strategic planning committee on 2 April, following a series of renegotiated improvements.

A spokesperson for developer Stonebond Properties said: "We have listened and we've made changes. Two vibrant play areas have been included... Every single house boasts its own private amenity space."

The new housing estate will be located next to the Astley Hall Care Home

The site in the Middlemore estate has been earmarked for housing since 1998.

Planning documents, seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, show that the site will offer 251 parking spaces, and 20% of the homes will be affordable.

Daventry Town Council raised concerns about parking capacity, but West Northamptonshire Council said the scheme met parking standards and the highways department raised no objections.

Council officers described the revised application as an improvement, and committee members voted to approve the development.
