Councillor arrested in harassment investigation

Police said a man was arrested at the council offices on Monday

Police have arrested a councillor on suspicion of stalking, harassment and public disorder.
Essex Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested at the offices of Basildon Council on Monday.
A spokesperson for the force said: "The arrest relates to an investigation into allegations of a man aged in his 30s being harassed online and in person.
"A 31-year-old man from Basildon is currently in custody for questioning."
In a statement issued on Monday evening, Basildon Council said: "Following repeated public disorder in the council offices, harassment of staff and councillors and trespassing into areas of the council they are not permitted to be in, a councillor was this morning arrested by Essex Police officers in the council building and taken into custody."
