A new household food waste collection service is due to launch in Bradford next year.

The service, which will bring the district into line with new government recycling regulations, is scheduled to start in September 2026, according to Bradford Council.

Under the plans, all residential properties would be given a 5 litre indoor caddy bin and an external 23 litre bin.

Waste such as discarded food, eggshells, fruit and vegetables, teabags and coffee grounds will be able to go in the new bins.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the council's executive member for healthy people and places, said: "Reducing waste and recycling as much as we can is the right thing to do.

"By supporting residents to put the right things in the right bins we can all help reduce contamination and costs in the future.

"The new food waste service will also mean that households will have a weekly collection of waste food, which currently goes in the general waste green bin, and is collected every two weeks."
