Funding secured to deliver south Skye sports pitch

The new facility is hoped to create new sporting opportunities

Plans to create a modern all-weather sports pitch in the south of Skye have been awarded more than £327,000 of government funding.

The proposal, from the South Skye Community Campus group, has been supported by the Scottish government's Islands Programme.

Work on the near £850,000 project, which has been 10 years in the making, is expected to begin in spring next year.

South Skye Community Campus group said the new pitch in Broadford would "open the door to new sports and activities in south Skye".

Skye and Raasay councillor John Finlayson said the award brought to an end the "tireless" work by all involved, and described it as an exciting time for the local community.

The new all-weather sports facility will be constructed next to the planned new primary school in Broadford.

Plans for later phases of the sports facilities hope to deliver changing rooms, a gym and a multi-use space, as well as a bike pump track.

The local village hall, as well as the existing car park and play park are also earmarked for renovation

Funding towards the project has also been granted by the Highland Council and sportscotland, alongside developer contributions and local fundraising.

The first donation to the project, totalling £500, was made by Broadford Youth Club in May 2024.
