Plans to build a three-storey extension at a care home in Arnold have been approved.

The Manor Residential Home, in Church Street, offers long-term care for adults over 65, who are no longer able to live independently, across 27 bedrooms.

The new "contemporary" extension will be built on the existing car park and will include 16 en-suite bedrooms, a hair salon, a communal bath, a communal area and two disabled toilets.

The application was approved by Gedling Borough Council on Monday.

The new building will be linked to the existing care home through a corridor, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

New parking spaces will be created at the front of the extension, along with a new entrance and exit for the building.

Planning documents state the extension is needed to "address growing local demand" for support for people with dementia.

They add the expansion will offer a variety of housing options for residents with different care needs and generate new jobs "across different skill levels".
