An unexploded bomb has been found at a construction site in Merseyside.

The device was discovered on North Atlantic Avenue in Bootle, the same street in which an unexploded World War Two bomb was unearthed on Tuesday.

Merseyside Police said it had a report of "unexploded ordnance" on a building site at about 11:45 BST.

The force said Dunnings Bridge Road was closed in both directions between Park Lane and Boundary Road/Netherton Way.

'Avoid the area'

Sefton Council said the road would be closed until further notice.

Motorists were encouraged to "seek alternative routes while the closure is in place".

The first device, found on Tuesday, was taken to Ainsdale Beach in Southport, where it was detonated by the Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD).

Footage of the controlled explosion, captured by the news site Eye On Southport, showed the EOD team destroying the device at Ainsdale Beach.
