Plans to create a "one-stop shop" for Alderney businesses wanting to improve their digital skills have been backed by the States.

The Economic Development Committee said it would invest in the Alderney Enterprise and Technology Hub, a venue which would include a co-working space, hot-desks, and a meeting space for videoconferencing.

There are also plans for it to offer workshops in digital skills like basic IT applications, online safety, coding and digital marketing.

The committee said the initiative would help strengthen Alderney's economy "by attracting new businesses and supporting the upskilling of local residents".

"This initiative delivers on a key action in the Island Plan by creating a one-stop hub for business advice and guidance," said Stuart Clark, chair of the committee.

"It will be for both of those looking to establish themselves in Alderney and for existing local enterprises seeking support, training, and skills development."

He said the hub would also be for visitors to the island who come for work, as well as remote workers.

Ian Corder, director of the hub, said people in Alderney "are keen to see new opportunities for jobs".

"The Enterprise and Technology Hub will play a leading role in helping our businesses and individuals develop digital skills.

"We will make best use of the new opportunities the digital economy presents, while also promoting the island as an attractive place to live and work," Mr Corder said.

He added: "We are excited to show how technology can connect and empower us, and we welcome everyone to take part, learn and share their experiences together."
