Councillors said that congestion was affecting residents' quality of life

Councillors have called for a management review of a motorway junction to tackle congestion.

Worcester Liberal Democrats said queues around the Sixways Roundabout, at junction six of the M5, were "impacting residents’ quality of life" and leading to "significant delays".

They urged Highways England and Worcestershire County Council to take action and identify short and long term solutions for the congestion.

Fiona McKenzie, from Highways England, said it was seeking to "commission a signalling a review" to help "reduce delays and improve queuing at the junction".

Councillor Sarah Murray stated that the congestion around junction six had become a "daily headache for local commuters and residents".

“The traffic backing up along Berkeley Way is not only inconvenient but has started to affect local businesses and create safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists.”

Councillor John Rudge said that improving traffic flow around the junction must become "a priority for the council".

Highways England said it was "always looking at ways to improve traffic flows".

Worcestershire County Council has been approached for comment.
