A former landlord of a city pub has been jailed for rape.

Kevin Tweedy, who ran the Artichoke pub on Magdalen Road in Norwich, attacked a woman in 2015.

A four-day trial in August found he also sexually assaulted the same victim in 2013.

The 66-year-old, of High Street, Loddon, Norfolk, was sentenced to 32 months in custody, with a further 16 months to be served on licence.

Recorder Rouse KC, who presided over the trial at King's Lynn Crown Court, described Tweedy's attack as "deliberate" and "forceful".

"You were persistent in your pursuit of her," he said.

"The impact upon her was profound.

"Anyone seeking to blame [the victim] for any of this should hang their head in shame."

Tweedy was also given a restraining order against the victim.

The Artichoke's new owner, Lisa Davis, a lawyer from Huddersfield, said staff, management and locals had been "deeply shocked" by Tweedy's conviction.

"Norwich friends have often told me that the Artichoke is a lively and friendly pub with a strong staff team, she said.

"I am proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to making this historic venue a success in years to come."
