A421 closed until Monday for old bridge demolition

A 12-mile (19km) diversion has been put in place so an old bridge can be demolished, as part of work to build a £1bn new road.

National Highways has closed the A421 in both directions between the Renhold Interchange and the Black Cat roundabout, close to Bedford, in Bedfordshire, and St Neots, Cambridgeshire, so the Roxton Road bridge can be torn down.

The section will remain shut until 06:00 BST on Monday.

Diversions are taking place via the A603 and A1 between Cardington and Sandy, with traffic passing through Moggerhanger.

The works are part of a 10-mile (16km) dual carriageway being built between the Black Cat roundabout and the Caxton Gibbet roundabout near Cambourne.

The new Roxton bridge has been created, but will also be shut while the old one gets demolished.
