A man has been attacked by a group of assailants wearing balaclavas while he walked through an underpass.
Wiltshire Police said the serious assault happened in the underpass on Whitehall Way in Swindon at around 02:00 BST.
The 37-year-old victim sustained injuries which are not thought to be life-changing, police said. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
A police cordon is in place and officers are appealing for witnesses to the assault or anyone with information which may help to identify the suspects - who are described as wearing dark clothing - to come forward.
The force also urged anyone who "noticed anything suspicious" to get in touch.
