Arrest after death of man at five-star hotel

A man has been arrested following the death of a man in his 60s at a hotel in County Laois in the Republic of Ireland.
Gardaí (Irish police) said they were called to the hotel shortly before 20:00 local time on Tuesday.
Irish broadcaster RTÉ has reported that the property is a Ballyfin Demense, external, a five-star hotel set in a 614-acre estate near the Slieve Bloom mountains.
It said it understood the arrested man, who is in his 30s, was travelling with the man who died.
Gardaí described the death as a fatal assault and said they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death.
An incident room has been set up at Portlaoise Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the dead man's family.
