The family of a man who died at the scene of a crash in West Sussex have spoken of their devastation at losing the "devoted" father-of-three.

Chris Fountain, 52, from Ferring, was driving his Kia Sportage on the A280 Long Furlong when it collided with a lorry at about 06:00 BST on 9 September.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement issued through Sussex Police, his family said he "dedicated his life to his family and helping those around him".

'He was our world'

The statement said: “Chris was a devoted husband and father to three amazing boys.

“He was a coach at the Worthing Rugby Club and was committed to adding value to the club.

"Beyond his family life, he was simply a genius in the workplace.

"He had international businesses, and is dearly missed by his team in Chicago and the Middle East.

"There is no-one like him, he was our world and we are all truly devastated.”

Worthing Rugby Club said Mr Fountain had "played a vital role" as a coach in the under-15s boys' section and the club "missed him dearly".

They said: "He was never happier, come rain or shine, than being on the pitch with his sons and the rest of the team.

"He had infectious energy, a wicked sense of humour and a special ability to connect with parents and players alike."

The lorry driver involved in the crash – a man in his 50s – was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A section of the road was closed for two days to allow for the attendance of emergency services and road resurfacing works.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
