Bridge survey work taking place before rebuild

Concrete specialists are set to check a Guernsey bridge's conditions ahead of a planned rebuild project.
Guernsey Ports said McFarland Consulting would start its annual condition survey at Castle Cornet Bridge on Monday and continue until Friday.
The survey will assess how suitable the 95m (311ft) bridge - which has had issues with "accelerated loss of concrete" in recent years - is for ongoing pedestrian use until it can be replaced, Guernsey Ports added.
Plans for a £7m-rebuild of the bridge, which dates back to 1951, were approved by the States of Guernsey in January with the work expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Guernsey Ports said there would be limited access across the bridge while the survey work takes place but essential access to Castle Cornet would be maintained.
It added the work would involve a visual inspection and "strain sensor analysis" along the bridge.
Access underneath the bridge has been restricted due to the concrete problems, and vehicle access to the bridge was prohibited following last year's inspection.
Guernsey Ports added JBA Consulting has been appointed to help guide the development of the rebuild project.
